| Home Mountain?: Squaw Valley, CA |
| | | Number of years skiing?: 26 |
| | | Sponsors?: Sessions, Porters, Smith Optics, Unofficial Squaw, Squaw, Nordica, FiveTen shoes, Hestra Gloves, Discrete beanies. |
| | | What are you Sportin’ on the sessions line?: The Shane McConkey Jacket and any Gore pant and I am set for a season. |
| | | If you had to move somewhere where would you go?: I'd be bummed if I had to move, but I would go to Switzerland. |
| | | What do you do outside of skiing?: I base jump, surf, hike, and rock climb. |
| | | Best moments on and off snow?: Tough question. Off snow, there is one particular wingsuit flight that stands out in norway, and on snow, the first time I went to AK, I really hit it just right. I only had 10 days, I skied about 6 of those and each day was powder on all aspects and totally safe avy conditions and blue skies and no wind. There was this one run on that trip...perfection! |
| | | What drives you to slay so hard?: I want to keep my job, stay fit, and be the best skier I can be, that may sounds cheesy, but I want to look back at this time in my life and know that I took that opportunity for all it was worth, skied as many days as possible, got all the fresh tracks, saw some special places and hiked around, met people all that fun stuff. |
| | | Favorite homies to ski with?: Shane. I guess we will see who replaces him, Gaffney, Kyle O'neal, Cody Townsend those are all right up there with favorites. |
| | | Biggest jump you’ve attempted? How did it go?: I jumped a 140ft cliff in Utah that was about twice the size of any cliff I had done up to that point, I went for the gainer, but looking off, i just knew I had it, I knew I could jump from here to there, it just looked good. Soft snow, good transitions, so I went for it, laid out the gainer, had total control, but ended up slightly under rotating because the wind on my skis was more of a factor than I had anticipated. |
| | | What do you think about skiing and rails?: Hey, whatever you feel like skiing doesn't bother me. It takes great balance to ride rails on skis or a board. I used to ride them on skis, back in 2000 or so. I did a steep 36 step rail and was pleased with the way I greased it, but I kind of started to realize that the landings at the bottom of the handrails are almost always flat. Completely flat concrete in fact. I just tend to be magnetically drawn to juicier landings these days. I have not done more than a beginner park rail in 5 years. |
| | | Moseley or Jean-Claude Killy?: Moseley. I admit it, I was a bumper for a while as a young teen. I thought Jonny Moseley was bad to the bone, and he was. My fondest memory of Jonny's radness is this: 1994. Moseley was stepping off of the KT chair and going straight off the chair, taking all the speed he could get from the chair off load ramp, and skating, pushing in as hard as possible towards 75 Chute and just sending the hugest backflips off the cornice into afternoon chopped up powder. It was insane. He was sailing 100 plus feet down the mountain. This was the golden boy in his invincible teen age years. The coolest part was the he was already buckled up when he stepped off the chair and just charged straight in. |
| | | What moment do you think made your career what it is today?: Maybe it was a phone call I made to MSP asking for the opportunity to film. Or maybe it was the moment I decided I was going to be a pro skier. I was 15 and skiing with Shane. I asked him what he did for money and he said with a grin "I am a rock star pro skier." Right then and there I thoght to myself "well, that is what I am going to do too." |
| | | Greatest inspiration?: Shane. |
| | | What matters most to you in life?: Friends and Family. |
